Increase Engagement with Dedicated “Missions Wall”
For many churches, missions can quietly end up on the back burner. Not because your people don’t care—but because they’re busy. Between work, family life, and everything else competing for our attention, global missions can become easy to forget about.
Years ago at Grace Polaris Church in Columbus, Ohio, a group of women changed that. God gave them a heart for missions, and together, they started a prayer group called the “Women’s Missionary Council.” They met every month to pray over the missionaries their church supported as well as their surrounding neighborhoods.
After doing this faithfully for many years, God burdened them to raise awareness of missions throughout the rest of their congregation. He gave them a vision to create a “Missions Wall” where the entire church could be visibly reminded of their missionaries and see which part of the world each one served in.
God even supplied the funds, and the Missions Wall came to be. Today, the space includes a map of their own neighborhood as well as a world map to inspire the congregation to reach out. It also features shelves displaying cards for each of the church's missionaries. Each card has the missionary’s picture and information so that people can take them home and know how to pray for them. There’s also a multi-functional room near the wall where groups can meet, pray, and present missionary updates.
The Missions Wall is a simple idea, but a powerful tool for reminding a busy congregation of what’s important. It also serves as a tribute to the prayerful women who helped make the church what it is today. That faithful group is now known as “Women For Missions,” and they still meet to this day.
