Calling is where Giftedness, Obedience, & Opportunity Collide
At one of their monthly gatherings, our worker Nichole says, “We lingered a little longer around the table—talking about life, calling, and what it really means to be disciple-makers.”
One conversation really stood out to them.
It was with a young Christian woman who started verbally processing what it might look like to live more intentionally for God’s Kingdom. What followed felt less like a conversation and more like a coaching journey into her calling as she started listing the things God has already placed in her hands:
-
A love for tight-knit community
-
Joy in movement and the beauty of creation (sports, walks)
-
Leadership experience and team development
-
Full, purposeful days
-
A heart for bridging faith and everyday life
-
Creative, culturally relevant ways to reach the unreached
-
A desire for healthy, servant-hearted team culture
As she shared, Nichole couldn’t help but think, “This is how someone’s calling takes shape—not dropped out of the sky fully-formed, but discovered at the intersection of giftedness, obedience, and opportunity.”
And as the Apostle Paul writes, “We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)
As Rob and Nichole have served in Paris, they’ve noticed how transient the city is, especially for young adults. People come and go, yet sometimes, in these “temporary” seasons, God is quietly planting something eternal.
“After my conversation with this young woman,” Nichole says, “I found myself feeling deeply grateful for the possibility of what God might continue to grow.”
Maybe you find yourself in a similar place: wondering how God wants to use your life, gifts, experiences, and passions for His Kingdom. Calling isn't always revealed in a single moment. It's often discovered step by step as we steward what God has already placed in our hands and say "Yes" to the opportunities He provides. The same God who was shaping a calling in this young woman's heart is at work in ours as well. And as we seek Him, we can rest in this promise: “The one who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:24)
