Japanese culture values conformity and unity. Family, social, and work relationships enforce continuity in the Japanese way. Christianity is seen as a western, non-Japanese religion. Within their home culture, Japanese people have many obstacles to even considering Christ. But when Japanese people live abroad, some of those obstacles are lowered. As students and professionals move to the United States for an extended stay, they have new needs. They need to learn new systems and adapt to new patterns. As Christians build real friendships and help with their needs, Japanese people grow curious about their new friends and ask lots of questions. Sharing the reality of Jesus becomes natural and powerful. Encompass has had a team focused on Japanese student ministry in Los Angeles. This team has seen much fruit over the years but now needs new team members. A new team could focus on a large professional Japanese community in central Ohio. Your skills could introduce a Japanese person to the reality of Jesus. How do you see yourself in this opportunity?
