I don’t think he wrote in his diary hoping that someday someone would copy it into a book. He was just an ordinary guy, like you or me, who said, “I’m going to choose today to release it.”
“Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains a single seed. But, if it dies, it bears much fruit.” –John 12:24
Do you know what is tough about all of this? You can’t just do it today and then go on tomorrow. We really don’t need a couple of James Gribble heroes and we really don’t need a group of pastors that at one point in time said to God, “Take it all.” But then, sort of moved on. What we need is a lot of ordinary people who every day, as they get up, they’re saying, “God, I choose today.”
I mean, I want to be a seed, just like you. A seed is pretty comfortable. There’s a shell around it and it’s protected. God designed it that way. But, it wasn’t meant to sit on a shelf or sit in a jar. And, a seed only has value as it’s dropped into the ground. And, as the shell comes off, the seed dies.
I want to follow in the footsteps, not because I’m going to go to Africa and die from blackwater fever. But, I want to follow in the passion of a man who says, “I don’t want to hold on to life. I want to be a grain of wheat that falls to the ground and dies because that’s where a lot of fruit comes from.”
