Located near the Japanese Alps, Hokuto-shi is a beautiful, semi-rural area about two hours outside of Tokyo, home to a thriving arts community. Like most Japanese people, these artists have only known or considered the traditional Japanese beliefs of ancestor worship and spirit appeasement. Yet this path leaves them feeling bound and hopeless. They have heard of Christianity, but see it as foreign, and for other people. But when Japanese people get to know a follower of Jesus who lives differently—free and caring—they are intrigued.
Your creative ability can be a powerful tool to introduce Japanese people to God’s love and grace. Art can be a common language and a meeting ground to build authentic relationships, creating a bridge for Japanese people to see Jesus in you. The Encompass team in Hokuto-shi is praying for Christian artists who love Jesus, love people, and want to show others how much God cares for them.
You could be an answer to their prayers. Artists in different media, team leaders, disciplers, and organizers could all contribute to reaching Japanese in this community.
